In nutrition, diet is the sum of food consumed by a person or other organism. The word diet often implies the use of specific intake of nutrition for health or weight-management reasons (with the two often being related). Although humans are omnivores, each culture and each person holds some food preferences or some food taboos. This may be due to personal tastes or ethical reasons. Individual dietary choices may be more or less healthy.

Complete nutrition requires ingestion and absorption of vitamins, minerals, essential amino acids from protein and essential fatty acids from fat-containing food, also food energy in the form of carbohydrate, protein, and fat. Dietary habits and choices play a significant role in the quality of life, health and longevity.

There are thousands of diets. Some are for losing weight, while others are for gaining weight, lowering cholesterol, living a long and healthful life, and many other reasons.

A diet is best described as a fixed plan of eating and drinking where the type and amount of food are planned out in order to achieve weight loss or follow a particular lifestyle.

Here are some diets that are popular in the community

1. Mediterranean diet
The emphasis is on lots of plant foods, fresh fruits as dessert, beans, nuts, whole grains, seeds, olive oil as the main source of dietary fats. Cheese and yogurts are the main dairy foods. The diet also includes moderate amounts of fish and poultry, up to about four eggs per week, small amounts of red meat, and low to moderate amounts of wine.

2. Raw food diet
The raw food diet, or raw foodism, involves consuming foods and drinks that are not processed, are completely plant-based, and ideally organic.

3. Vegan diet
Veganism is more of a way of life and a philosophy than a diet. A vegan does not eat anything that is animal-based, including eggs, dairy, and honey. Vegans do not usually adopt veganism just for health reasons, but also for environmental, ethical, and compassionate reasons.

4. Vegetarian diet
The majority of vegetarians are lacto-ovo vegetarians, in other words, they do not eat animal-based foods, except for eggs, dairy, and honey.

Studies over the last few years have shown that vegetarians have a lower body weight, suffer less from diseases, and typically have a longer life expectancy than people who eat meat.

5. Ketogenic diet
The ketogenic diet has been used for decades as a treatment for epilepsy and is also being explored for other uses. It involves reducing carbohydrate intake and upping fat intake. It sounds contrary to common sense, but it allows the body to burn fat as a fuel, rather than carbohydrates.

6. Atkins diet
The Atkins diet, or Atkins nutritional approach, focuses on controlling the levels of insulin in the body through a low-carbohydrate diet.

If people consume large amounts of refined carbohydrates, their insulin levels rise and fall rapidly. Rising insulin levels trigger the body to store energy from the food that is consumed, making it less likely that the body will use stored fat as a source of energy.

Therefore, people on the Atkins diet avoid carbohydrates but can eat as much protein and fat as they like.
Although popular for some time, the Atkins Diet comes with certain risks. Individuals considering the Atkins Diet should speak with their doctor.

A healthy diet may improve or maintain optimal health. In developed countries, affluence enables unconstrained caloric intake and possibly inappropriate food choices.

Health agencies recommend that people maintain a normal weight by limiting consumption of energy-dense foods and sugary drinks, eating plant-based food, limiting consumption of red and processed meat, and limiting alcohol intake.

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans is an evidence-based information source that policy makers and health professionals use to advise the general public about healthy nutrition.

  1. If people started to sue doctors and pharmaceutical companies things might change more quickly. If adding insulin guarantees weight gain and eventually leads to gangrene and amputation, then it should not be tolerated a moment longer. The research is clear and evident. If pharmaceutical companies put money before people's health they should be shut down.

  2. So…

You told Diabetics to fast. Lol. I'm type 2 diabetic and I've been fasting lately and everything I've been eating hurts my fingers and my toes. Sometimes my calves would fall asleep and I couldnt feel them. I constantly worry if whatever I eat would make my diabetes worse or hurt me again. I am an animator. So I dont have the time to move around throughout my day. So the only time I move is when I walk from building to building. I need a solution to help my diabetes and help me be able to ear foods again without worrying.

  3. Just need some clarification: in the first few minutes he talks about the medical provider treating the symptoms (high sugar) instead of treating the disease (insulin resistance). But don’t we treat the disease with the medications that are being given to the patient. We increase insulin sensitivity and we increase insulin release which does treat the disease.

  4. mepav57747,RN.,BSN = "Why there is a consistent Insulin Resistance ? I believe the blood sugar lowers if there is IR." My Theory: "High blood sugar, No insulin. — Meal is Regular if there is high blood sugar and not fasting (cell deprivation). Diet is High protein Low carbo and fat and Exercise. No total sugar cut. —– How could the glucagon converted to glycogen ? I believe in GLUCAGON RESERVED more than glucagon in liver conversion…

  5. Nice video content! Excuse me for butting in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you considered – Patlarny Sugar Outcome Principle (should be on google have a look)? It is an awesome one off product for reversing diabetes minus the headache. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my close friend Aubrey finally got great success with it.

  6. Appreciate Video! Sorry for the intrusion, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you researched – Patlarny Sugar Outcome Principle (google it)? It is a great one off product for reversing diabetes without the headache. Ive heard some super things about it and my old buddy Taylor after many years got astronomical success with it.

  7. Cheers for the Video! Sorry for chiming in, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you considered – Patlarny Sugar Outcome Principle (search on google)? It is a smashing one off guide for reversing diabetes minus the hard work. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my mate finally got astronomical success with it.

  8. On October 5th I went to my Dr, because my blood sugar was 200. He gave me paperwork to go get routine bloodwork and gave me a prescription for Metformin. I was SO SURPRISED when he closed the door and said, "I know you're smart and like to learn about things. I want you to research this guy (showing me his cell phone) named Dr. Jason Fung. He's a Specialist in Canada and deals with people on dialysis. This man has figured out a way to reverse diabetes. I have been following his advice, have lost weight and my own blood sugar has gone down! I want you to do this so that you don't have to be on any medicine". HELLO! How often do you hear a Doctor saying THAT?! I started following that great advice from my Dr. and doing what I have learned so far, from Dr. Fung. It is now October 18th and I'm here to tell you that I have lost 9 pounds and my blood sugar is down to around 95! Intermittent Fasting and a complete turn around of what foods to eat and when = life changing! Thank you Dr. Fung.

  9. This pretty interesting issue which asserts the fact that people trust too much medications, the thing that pharmaceutical companies have advocated for since ages.so in order to realize that diabetes can be faught on daily practice basis, workouts, dietary counseling must be taken into account.

  10. Hey how can I lose weight? And treat my diabetes I got Type 1 Diabetes and I know it's incurable but I'm typing to eat, exercise and treat it better and mostly likely control my blood sugar and diet better because I having trouble with my diet, my blood sugar, and my weight because I am having problems with my weight because I am gaining so much weight because I eat and drink too much. And most likely when I take insulin it makes me gain and lose weight. What can I do and how to control these eating and weight habits I'm in. Because my mom said that insulin helps me lose weight but I know it's a lie or I don't know. Can someone please help me with this problem?

  11. I started using insulin novo rapid 8 units before every meal and lantus for bed time I started August 8,2018 and I always get hypo after I watched this video I stop using my insulin I started to work out gym and basketball then no carbs if I I eat carbs or sweets then I will need to burn it in gym some bench press and dumbbells August 8 2018 then I stop insulin October 1 2018
Now my fasting sugar is 4.9 to 5.9 the highest and I also do fasting I follow what all Dr Fung said and it was so effective by the way I’ll back to my doctor this coming December 6,2018 to do HBa1c to measure my cholesterol level and sugar level doctors will do some test and iam confident that it will have a good result

  12. I read an article the other day that said there are side effects to fasting. It can make your heart do funky things and I know this is true because I had my shoulder put back together after a nasty fall and my stomach and digestive system tried to shut down. I wasn't eating very much at all and I dropped 20 pounds pretty fast. During this time my sympathetic nervous system was in hyper drive and my heart was doing all kinds of fun stuff. So be careful with what you do. Having said that, I am an advocate of intermittent fasting for short periods of time.

  13. I remember when I went to the doctor and I lost ten pounds for the first time I lost weight and weighed 175 pounds. But then I wondered why now I started back eating out regularly all over again. And my mom took me to the doctor and I gained and gained a lot of weight. And I said I couldn't take it any longer so I cut my carbs down and I had to go through blood shots and blood drawn and stuff. I went to my own doctor and he weighed me and I bought that weight scale from target and I used to weigh myself at home but now I need to cut back a little bit before I can weigh myself all over again.

  14. Hello Doc,
But I don't take any sort of sugar , no carbs but still not losing any weight. I exercise 4- 5 days a week.still not working……
My doctor told me to watch my weight and diet. I have symptoms of type 2 diabetic. What should I do please help……

  15. Omg I’ve been going from Dr.to Dr. Trying to get better and no one I say no one explained it to me the way just did on this video and I thank you for it.So I’m going to fast tomorrow but don’t know how long I need to fast for.I have type 2 diabetes for almost two years now and would really love to get rid of this terrible disease .

  16. in under developed countries, completely lacking any universal medical coverage for their citizens, doctors will treat the type 2 diabetics with insulin, because the only thing which matters to them is profit, regardless what happen to the patients. i was given sweats, french fries, mashed potatoes and tropical fruits on a recent hospital "diabetes" diet, so the hospital can send me home with 5gr / day insulin. naturally I gave them my patriotic finger. this happened last week in US

  17. I have two sets of parents due to divorce/remarriage.  One set, both are diabetic, and the other only one is/was.  The Diabetic set refuse to change their diet even though my step-mom continues to gain weight due to insulin – the fat storing hormone.  She gets depressed and cries about her situation but refuses to change her diet.  They both drink alcohol every day – small amounts – but as diabetics they should not have any alcohol. My Dad, her husband says that he wants to 'live' regarding his food, but he means that he wants to eat whatever his tongue desires – unrestricted eating.  They both think that I am crazy with the Keto/intermittent fasting food program that I am on and said that they would never do it, but their diabetes keeps getting worse.  On the other side, my step-Dad  just went off of all diabetic medicines.  He lost over 40 pounds since cutting out alcohol on January 1st of this year.  He eats well, as my Mom fixes healthy food only – non GMO, organic, very few simple carbs in the meals.  He is walking more.  I am very excited for him.  I have tried to educate both sets.  One has listened, the other has not.  One is getting to live and enjoy their latter years, the other is suffering terribly.  It makes me want to pull my hair out dealing with the ignorance of the one set who refuses to adjust their diet.  And unfortunately they will want me to stop my life and help them when they get too sick to take care of themselves due to unrestricted eating. It is the MOST maddening thing ever.  I want to partner with those who chose life, not a slow tormented death due to ignorance, pride, and stubbornness.

  18. I know someone who has has never eaten dinner, eats between 6 am and 2-3 pm which is essentially IF before it was coined as such, and she developed type 2 diabetes as she ate that way and still has it years later. She doesn't really eat large caloric meals either unless she gets a treat to eat out for lunch. Her diabetes is very typical for someone who has been diagnosed with it. So it doesn't work for everyone.
