In nutrition, diet is the sum of food consumed by a person or other organism. The word diet often implies the use of specific intake of nutrition for health or weight-management reasons (with the two often being related). Although humans are omnivores, each culture and each person holds some food preferences or some food taboos. This may be due to personal tastes or ethical reasons. Individual dietary choices may be more or less healthy.

Complete nutrition requires ingestion and absorption of vitamins, minerals, essential amino acids from protein and essential fatty acids from fat-containing food, also food energy in the form of carbohydrate, protein, and fat. Dietary habits and choices play a significant role in the quality of life, health and longevity.

There are thousands of diets. Some are for losing weight, while others are for gaining weight, lowering cholesterol, living a long and healthful life, and many other reasons.

A diet is best described as a fixed plan of eating and drinking where the type and amount of food are planned out in order to achieve weight loss or follow a particular lifestyle.

Here are some diets that are popular in the community

1. Mediterranean diet
The emphasis is on lots of plant foods, fresh fruits as dessert, beans, nuts, whole grains, seeds, olive oil as the main source of dietary fats. Cheese and yogurts are the main dairy foods. The diet also includes moderate amounts of fish and poultry, up to about four eggs per week, small amounts of red meat, and low to moderate amounts of wine.

2. Raw food diet
The raw food diet, or raw foodism, involves consuming foods and drinks that are not processed, are completely plant-based, and ideally organic.

3. Vegan diet
Veganism is more of a way of life and a philosophy than a diet. A vegan does not eat anything that is animal-based, including eggs, dairy, and honey. Vegans do not usually adopt veganism just for health reasons, but also for environmental, ethical, and compassionate reasons.

4. Vegetarian diet
The majority of vegetarians are lacto-ovo vegetarians, in other words, they do not eat animal-based foods, except for eggs, dairy, and honey.

Studies over the last few years have shown that vegetarians have a lower body weight, suffer less from diseases, and typically have a longer life expectancy than people who eat meat.

5. Ketogenic diet
The ketogenic diet has been used for decades as a treatment for epilepsy and is also being explored for other uses. It involves reducing carbohydrate intake and upping fat intake. It sounds contrary to common sense, but it allows the body to burn fat as a fuel, rather than carbohydrates.

6. Atkins diet
The Atkins diet, or Atkins nutritional approach, focuses on controlling the levels of insulin in the body through a low-carbohydrate diet.

If people consume large amounts of refined carbohydrates, their insulin levels rise and fall rapidly. Rising insulin levels trigger the body to store energy from the food that is consumed, making it less likely that the body will use stored fat as a source of energy.

Therefore, people on the Atkins diet avoid carbohydrates but can eat as much protein and fat as they like.
Although popular for some time, the Atkins Diet comes with certain risks. Individuals considering the Atkins Diet should speak with their doctor.

A healthy diet may improve or maintain optimal health. In developed countries, affluence enables unconstrained caloric intake and possibly inappropriate food choices.

Health agencies recommend that people maintain a normal weight by limiting consumption of energy-dense foods and sugary drinks, eating plant-based food, limiting consumption of red and processed meat, and limiting alcohol intake.

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans is an evidence-based information source that policy makers and health professionals use to advise the general public about healthy nutrition.

  2. veganism barely hardly followed right now i em a meat restricted vegetarian diet and i think it's more about having a balance sources of protein like you can have soy or plant protein with meat or cook meat in low fat cheese as safer alternative to this unbalanced carnivore diet you are porpoising.

  3. 1 Timothy 4:1-3 (KJV)
    1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
    2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

  4. To argue that people who eat 'meat' are unhealthy, and to claim this is because they eat meat is just ridicules, when you look at the type of meat they eat.

I am sure that if the Vegans ate only plants that grow along our highways, they would have had (even more….) serious health problems. But not because of the plants themselves…

  5. They're confusing meat with meat mimicking processed foods. I own a cattle ranch, 2,000 acres, free pasture roam, grass fed cattle that are sometimes supplemented with alfalfa and grains during winter months. None of my cattle have steroids or antibiotics. When i go out and kill a heffer and it goes from pasture to table within 1-4 hours its dramatically different than a fucking McDonalds "meat" patty, that shit isn't meat…. my parents, gparents, great gparents and great great gparents were all raised on livestock they raised themselves, vegetables and fruits they grew on their own, wheat they grew on their own, milk they milked from their cow that went from utter to table in 30 minutes. My ggparents lived to 105, my great gma lived to 114. Its not the meat, its the bullshit they put in meat but lets not forget how horrendously awful pesticides and genetically modified food infused with fucking round-up, are for you. Theyre literally eating poison and yet are terrified of a little red meat?!?! Its like taking a shot of antifreeze instead of tequila because you're convinced the worm at the bottom of the bottle might have crawled across asphalt that had engine oil on it… its ridiculous.

  6. As someone who studies nutrition and fitness religiously I can say most of these claims made by vegans are at best grossly out of context and misleading and at worst outright lies and propaganda.

It's Always very funny to me as well how they are quick to bring up the "science" of how meat is bad but totally ignore the growing mountain of scientific data showing how horrible a vegan diet is for your health.

Usually the largest fallacy is vegans tend to lump meat eaters into the same health standard as the general public who also scarf down overly processed carbage, sugars, trans fats, and junk carbs. Yeah no shit if you count those "meat eaters" you will have a drastically different health profile than vegans.

But how about instead do a side by side of an onmivore who has a balanced diet and regular exercise….yep the omnivore generally has a much better athletic profile and a much easier and more sustainable lifestyle.

Most of these "vegan atheletes" are the one in one million freak examples and typically are only average by comparison to omnivores

  7. Also I see alot of vegans in the comments literally copy and pasting the same bullshit for every argument and all I can say is…thank you for proving the point you're liars and lunatics

  8. John 6:47 "verily, verily I say unto you, he that believes in me has everlasting life."-Jesus. Jesus the Messiah died for the remission of sin, including yours, was buried, and rose form the dead 3 days later. If you simply believe in this to save you, then you have everlasting life.

  9. Last October I was having horrible health issues. Upon a blood test I was informed that I was anemic with very low iron and creatine levels. My doctor didn't prescribe me medication, no, he told me to go out and buy a crap ton of beef. I did, and two weeks later with my follow-up test, my levels were normalized and my health returned. It not that I wasn't eating meat, I wasn't eating enough of it; A side effect of a small pay check at the time. I had to cut back on some luxuries, but now I always make sure my freezer if full of red meat.

  10. 'It causes Hypothyroidism' – I wouldn't doubt that, when it comes to the diet he's referring to. But, weirdly enough, I got diagnosed with the same condition and I had been vegan for about 3 years by that point. My test results before veganism came back negative. Strange, huh? I wasn't educated enough to understand that veganism IS actually nutrient deficient. And I'm not willing to take 8 supplements a day (or more) or stuff my face with ungodly amounts of nuts and seeds and oils and expensive alge. No thanks.

  11. Ever notice how many vegans look like that dude at 2:15? He looks like hes been through chemo & radiation!! Good lord!
Man cannot live without PROTEIN. I cant go 4 hours without a meat or dairy protein fix. Tuna, cheese, meat, eggs – something. You cannot keep your blood sugar level without protein!! You can eat 100 vegetables & 20 slices of bread & it will only spike & then drop blood sugar. This is one of the reasons there are younger & younger diabetics as well. Insulin shots & sugar fixes are what keeps people unbalanced. Really pisses me off that there's an entire diabetic industry making billions off this scam.

  13. Eating meat with large amounts of potatoes, pasta, rice and sugar is harmful. Just look at the normal population. Overweight and prone to disease.
Keto or carnivore is not that.

  14. I have never seen a human being able to rip the neck of a cow, pig, another whole animal (with hairs, feathers, …) only with the teeth. True meat eaters (carnivores or omnivores) do so without any difficulty, just as they are able to ingest the raw viscera (intestines, stomach, kidneys, heart, brain, …) from the animals they eat. The human being needs to cook or may have severe food poisoning. I've never seen a human being say, "Good, raw guts for me to eat!" A true meat eater eats them without any problem or disgust. The human being was not made to eat meat: he has no canines to shatter it, the acid in the stomach can not destroy the bacteria of raw meat (unlike carnivores and omnivores), the intestine is long like the herbivores. The foods that the human being should eat would be: fruits, vegetables, vegetables, nuts, anything that could eat raw, because in nature there are no stoves or knives.

    Best regards

  15. Both the vegan and carnivore industries have to gain when the convince people to follow their diet BUT the difference is you don’t have to convince a carnivore to stay carnivore. It’s much harder to conviene a vegan to stay vegan though — I wonder why.
