In nutrition, diet is the sum of food consumed by a person or other organism. The word diet often implies the use of specific intake of nutrition for health or weight-management reasons (with the two often being related). Although humans are omnivores, each culture and each person holds some food preferences or some food taboos. This may be due to personal tastes or ethical reasons. Individual dietary choices may be more or less healthy.

Complete nutrition requires ingestion and absorption of vitamins, minerals, essential amino acids from protein and essential fatty acids from fat-containing food, also food energy in the form of carbohydrate, protein, and fat. Dietary habits and choices play a significant role in the quality of life, health and longevity.

There are thousands of diets. Some are for losing weight, while others are for gaining weight, lowering cholesterol, living a long and healthful life, and many other reasons.

A diet is best described as a fixed plan of eating and drinking where the type and amount of food are planned out in order to achieve weight loss or follow a particular lifestyle.

Here are some diets that are popular in the community

1. Mediterranean diet
The emphasis is on lots of plant foods, fresh fruits as dessert, beans, nuts, whole grains, seeds, olive oil as the main source of dietary fats. Cheese and yogurts are the main dairy foods. The diet also includes moderate amounts of fish and poultry, up to about four eggs per week, small amounts of red meat, and low to moderate amounts of wine.

2. Raw food diet
The raw food diet, or raw foodism, involves consuming foods and drinks that are not processed, are completely plant-based, and ideally organic.

3. Vegan diet
Veganism is more of a way of life and a philosophy than a diet. A vegan does not eat anything that is animal-based, including eggs, dairy, and honey. Vegans do not usually adopt veganism just for health reasons, but also for environmental, ethical, and compassionate reasons.

4. Vegetarian diet
The majority of vegetarians are lacto-ovo vegetarians, in other words, they do not eat animal-based foods, except for eggs, dairy, and honey.

Studies over the last few years have shown that vegetarians have a lower body weight, suffer less from diseases, and typically have a longer life expectancy than people who eat meat.

5. Ketogenic diet
The ketogenic diet has been used for decades as a treatment for epilepsy and is also being explored for other uses. It involves reducing carbohydrate intake and upping fat intake. It sounds contrary to common sense, but it allows the body to burn fat as a fuel, rather than carbohydrates.

6. Atkins diet
The Atkins diet, or Atkins nutritional approach, focuses on controlling the levels of insulin in the body through a low-carbohydrate diet.

If people consume large amounts of refined carbohydrates, their insulin levels rise and fall rapidly. Rising insulin levels trigger the body to store energy from the food that is consumed, making it less likely that the body will use stored fat as a source of energy.

Therefore, people on the Atkins diet avoid carbohydrates but can eat as much protein and fat as they like.
Although popular for some time, the Atkins Diet comes with certain risks. Individuals considering the Atkins Diet should speak with their doctor.

A healthy diet may improve or maintain optimal health. In developed countries, affluence enables unconstrained caloric intake and possibly inappropriate food choices.

Health agencies recommend that people maintain a normal weight by limiting consumption of energy-dense foods and sugary drinks, eating plant-based food, limiting consumption of red and processed meat, and limiting alcohol intake.

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans is an evidence-based information source that policy makers and health professionals use to advise the general public about healthy nutrition.

Did you know that what you eat could be making you sick? It’s true. Some foods such as poultry, beef, and dairy clog your body with energy-depleting fats, toxins, and chemicals. Where can you find the optimum nourishment your body needs to stay strong, healthy, and vigorous? For millions of people, the answer is in the health and healing properties of living foods—foods that are eaten raw and produced without dangerous, nutrient-robbing chemicals or additives.

For more than forty years, Brian Clement has been teaching people how to cleanse and heal their bodies with naturally potent living foods. Brian explains why living foods are vital to good health.

  1. Thank you Dr.Clement this is what I been saying to everyone , insulin resistance from fatty liver from animal fats and oils then can't absorb the sugars from carbs , etc.
High Blood Pressure & Then Diabetes.

    🌱💪👊

  2. This video is very confusing. Starts out saying that all forms of fat are bad for you and it’s the main cause of diabetes. He then concentrates on telling you not to eat sugar! But under what circumstances – if you a diabetic or not? I can understand that if somebody is diabetic they should avoid sugar as they are insulin resistant. However somebody who is healthy should avoid too???!!!! Sugar are carbs are energy are Walter Kempner proven. We should be eating a high carb, low oil diet devoid of meat, dairy and eggs.

  3. So the animal fat we eat surrounds the cells and this stops the glucose getting in? Really? That's gotta be the most uneducated description for the cause of diabetes i've ever heard! And i guess there must be a lot of animal fat in the alcohol then. And sugar in animal products.. loads of it.. oh wait he does mention plants. But he don't mention bread pasta potatoes and rice turning to sugar.
B12 naturally found in fish meat eggs dairy.. not generally found in vegetables.. So how does he conclude meat eaters can be more deficient in B12 than vegetarians?
Ah i know.. the animal fat surrounding the cells stops the B12 getting in!
I got nothing against any type of diet, I just want to get to the bottom of all this dietary politics.
This guy comes across as a complete Quack!!!

  4. Interesting but also a bit confusing…… I do not say dr. Brian Clemont isn’t wrong, but my brother reversed his type 2 diabetis by changing his lifestyle and implementing the ketogenic diet! (he also does IF six days a week and resistance training four times a week) He got off insulin injections and his A1C levels went from almost 10% to 5.7%. Just in five months time. What are your thoughts…..?

  5. The fact is that the medical system does not spend time dealing with the ROOT CAUSE of diseases because
it makes money dealing with symptoms through drugs and surgeries. No matter how many drugs are given
or how many surgeries are done the ROOT CAUSE is not addressed. Any intelligent person like Clement (or many
other people over the years like Sylvester Graham) who talk about dealing with prevention and using whole foods
and nutrition as remedies are ridiculed and "jailed". Consider how many people all over the world consume
massive amounts of animal proteins and saturated fats contained in them and the rise is heart disease, cancers,
diabetes and so many other diseases (related to products from animal agriculture)… make doctors rich. .It
makes sense to me that animal fat IS a cause and you can see why when people do go on a whole food plant
food regimen the heart problems reverse. Dr's Ornish, Esselstyn, Kahn, Williams, Ostfeld, McDougall and other
'VEGAN' MEDICAL DOCTORS have proven this works. If you want to believe otherwise eat what you want. Dr. Gregers
grandmother was dying and reversed her diseases by listening to dr. pritikin and going plant based….

  6. And don't forget to exercise💪
Muscles can use glucose without insulin when you’re exercising it can also improve your insulin sensitivity and leptin sensitivity. Eating lots of sprouts, algeas and greens and excersing will revearse all your diseases not only diabetes 😉

  7. More people are going to hear the part of this that implies to not eat carbs, because you didn't emphasize the fats part of this. So many people take insulin and eat nuts, oils, bacon, avocados, eggs, CHEESE, etc thinking they are doin themselves a favor because they aren't eating sweet potatoes and carrots and brown rice and beans.
